Foodbanks call for direct DWP hotline, as new figures show emergency food provision in the South West rises

In the South West, between April and September 2016, Trussell Trust foodbanks gave 45,714 three-days food supplies to people in crisis, compared to 44,299 during the same period in 2015 Issues with benefits account for 43 per cent of referrals in the South West, and 44 per cent of referrals UK-wide Charity calls for foodbank telephone ͚hotline͛ to local Job Centres to support people in crisis more quickly and efficiently, reducing negative impact on mental wellbeing.

At Bristol North West Foodbank we have seen a 16% increase in numbers of people needing emergency food from our Foodbank during that period.

1 April 2015 – 30th September 2015
